LOT Polish Airlines Baggage Allowance (2026): Carry-On, Checked Bags & Fees

The LOT Polish Airlines baggage allowance is generous on long-haul Dreamliner flights and tight on European Economy fares. Two numbers catch most passengers: the 8 kg cabin bag limit in Economy, and the fact that the popular Economy Saver fare includes no checked bag at all.

LOT Carry-On Rules

Your main cabin bag must fit within 55 x 40 x 23 cm (118 cm in total) and weigh no more than 8 kg in Economy. Business passengers can take two bags of up to 9 kg each. On top of that, every passenger with a seat can bring a personal item of up to 40 x 35 x 12 cm and 2 kg — a laptop bag, small backpack, handbag or camera bag that fits under the seat.

Eight kilograms is less than it sounds: a hard-shell cabin suitcase often weighs 3–4 kg empty. If you travel with a laptop, use the 2 kg personal item for it and its charger, and choose a light soft-sided main bag. Coats, crutches and canes, medical equipment and duty-free bags bought at the airport are carried in addition.

Does LOT check cabin bags?

Yes. Bags are regularly weighed at check-in and sized at the gate, particularly at the Warsaw Chopin hub. A bag that does not fit the sizer is checked for a fee. Tall trekking backpacks are a common problem: under 8 kg, but more than 55 cm tall.

Embraer flights and "Delivery at Aircraft"

Much of LOT's European network uses Embraer E170–E195 jets with small overhead bins. On full flights, staff may tag even a correctly sized roller bag for Delivery at Aircraft (DAA): you leave it at the aircraft door or the bottom of the stairs and collect it in the same place on arrival. Keep medication, keys and electronics in your personal item so a DAA tag never separates you from them.

Checked Baggage Allowance

Each checked bag may measure up to 158 cm (length + width + height). The number of bags depends on your fare and route:

• Domestic and European flights: Saver 0 bags; Standard and Flex 1 x 23 kg; Business 2 x 32 kg.
• Intercontinental flights (e.g. USA, Canada, Japan, Korea): Saver 0 bags; Standard 1 x 23 kg; Premium Economy 2 x 23 kg; Business 3 x 32 kg.

Miles & More and Star Alliance extras

Star Alliance Gold, Miles & More Senator and HON Circle members receive one extra checked bag (23 kg in Economy, 32 kg in Business) on LOT-operated flights — including on Economy Saver tickets that otherwise have no allowance. Frequent Traveller (Silver) members generally do not get an extra bag, apart from specific fare conditions on some European routes.

Connecting in Warsaw

On a single LOT booking, checked bags are transferred automatically at Warsaw Chopin (WAW), including between long-haul flights and Schengen connections; you only collect them if you are on separate tickets. Oversized items, sports equipment and strollers are handed in at the oversize baggage desk in departures Hall B.

Excess, Overweight and Oversize Fees

Charges depend on the route and currency, and they are cumulative — an overweight bag that is also oversize pays both fees. Approximate amounts:

Buying extra bags in Manage My Booking at least 12 hours before departure is typically up to about 20% cheaper than paying at the airport.

Sports Equipment and Musical Instruments

• Skis, golf clubs, surfboards: can replace your standard checked bag if within 23 kg; otherwise, or on Saver fares, a fixed fee applies.
• Bicycles: always charged, roughly €60–100 depending on route.
• Firearms: strictly regulated, with a mandatory fee and advance arrangement.
• Instruments: small ones (violin, ukulele) travel as your cabin bag if they fit 55 x 40 x 23 cm; guitars and cellos go in the hold in a hard case or on a purchased extra seat.

Children and Infants

Children aged 2–12 have the same allowance as adults. Infants on a lap receive one 23 kg checked bag (not on Economy Saver), and a stroller or car seat is carried free for children up to 12.

How to Avoid Paying More on LOT

• Compare Saver + extra bag with the Standard fare price before booking.
• Weigh your cabin bag at home — 8 kg includes the bag itself.
• Use the 2 kg personal item for electronics and chargers.
